Edward Stiechen. Nocturne, Orangerie Stairs, Versailles.

Not really much I feel like saying here except that it’s sort of interesting how photographers and painters were working a fairly similar game, partly because Steichen was trying to get photography taken seriously as an art form and part of that was presumably making photographs look like something *everyone* could agree was art. At least I think that was what was going on; it’s been a while since I read up on this.
